| | | Year 2008, May 31st marks the day of my Canon EOS 450D purchase. I am totally a beginner when it comes to using a DSLR but after a few hours of self-learning, I think managed to shoot decent figure photos as below. Figma's Suzumiya Haruhi figurines were chosen as the subject. The Canon EOS 450D Here's the official promotional website of the EOS 450D DSLR. Canon has also provided a user-friendly tutorial website for DSLR newbie. Full specifications and professional reviews can be found at DPREVIEW. | | | Above: Canon EOS 450D DSLR | My Canon EOS 450D EF-S 18-55 IS Kit My whole purchase of this DSLR for MYR3450 (approx. US$1060.00) comes with many essential accessories such as a tripod, lens filters, 2GB SD card, travel bag, and many more... it's an expensive buy :(. For my needs of figure shooting, I got myself a separate prime lens, the affordable EF f/1.8 50mm II (approx. US$90) also. The strength of this prime lens is that it is very 'fast' and it can provide very narrow 'depth-of-field'. Hence the background of all figure photos can be blurred out if shot with this lens. The lens is claimed to be able to perform very good in indoor portrait shooting as well. | | | Above: The Box of My Canon EOS 450D DSLR | | | | | Above: Default supplied EF-S 18-55mm IS lens | Above: The EF 50mm f/1.8 II prime lens | | | | | | | Above: Photo with the 450D, F1.8 50mm prime lens | Above: Opps... N.S.F.W! Just having fun with the prime lens | | | Shooting Figma's Suzumiya Haruhi figures on the very first day of my purchase Shown below are photos taken using the DSLR with the prime lens attached. The photos were then slightly adjusted for better saturation using Method A shown in my past entry. Note: Ron was right with his comment in this post, even with a DSLR, minor Photoshop adjustment makes figurine photo even better! | | | Above: Figma's Chouyusha Haruhi (超勇者ハルヒ) | | | | Above: Figma's Suzumiya Haruhi | Other photos taken on day 1: | | | | | Above: The Suzumiya Haruhi "SOS Dan" key chain and Shakugan no Shana's "Melon" bun, oishiiiiiii!!! | Note: The Chouyusha Suzumiya Haruhi figure comes along with PlayStation 2 game "Suzumiya Haruhi no Tomadoi" Limited Edition, they are not sold separately. | | | Above: PS2 Suzumiya Haruhi no Tomadoi | Final Thoughts I will never go back to "point and shoot" compact camera since the moment I make my first shot with this DSLR! The details and quality are far superior as compared to compact camera! Just feels like never ever going to go back to 56k when you have broadband now.
