 | HTC Touch HD Posted: October 6th, 2008 12:25 pm (Mon) by Divine Fang Last Edited: October 6th, 2008 1:03 pm (Mon) Views: 3824 [Permalink] Tag: Tech, PDA, Windows Mobile, HTC | | | While both terms "otaku" and "geek" may be closely related to each other, today's entry is focused towards the "geek" factor, featuring the upcoming high-end PDA phone, the HTC Touch HD! Specification of this sleek looking device leaked out last month and was announced officially at HTC's website later. The biggest selling point of the HTC Touch HD, presumably, is the size of the LCD screen as well as it's compact design for such screen quality. The Touch HD sports a 3.8" WVGA (480x800) resolution screen with its body size very similar to that of an Apple iPhone. So, obviously the Touch HD is targetted on consumers who seek both high-end multimedia capability and more advance funtions not offered by "conventional" phone, or even iPhone. Important specs Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, Qualcomm 7201A processor @ 528MHz, 512MB ROM / 256MB RAM (+32MB on processor), 3.8-inch WVGA TFT touchscreen, 115mm x 62.8mm x 12mm, GPS / HSDPA, 5 Megapixel camera... more here. More About Screen Resolution: HTC Touch HD VS Apple iPhone The iPhone did "wow" us with its big and nice looking screen when it was launched, no doubt about it, but now the Touch HD has more than twice the pixel that an iPhone has. Screen quality is often measured by the pixel density (ppi), or screen resolution in relation with physical screen size. The 3.5" iPhone screen has native 320x480 resolution (153.6k) at stated 163ppi but the bigger 3.8" HTC Touch HD screen has 480x800 (384k) at my calculated 245ppi. With those numbers, the Touch HD's screen should look much better than the iPhone's, thus making the Touch HD displays your photos or videos better. Additionally, PSP owners might want to know that the PSP has a 4.3" 480x272 pixels screen resolution resulting in low pixel density at about 128ppi only. | | | Above: HTC Touch HD by MoDaCo.com | Thoughts Needless to say, the HTC Touch HD is my dream device as screen resolution is always my main concern when picking up new multimedia gadget. However I might not be getting it soon due to the price tag, about MYR3500 I'd say (no official local pricing yet but some websites suggested roughly USD950). I have also been a Windows Mobile (WM) user for many years and I still love it. My first PDA was the HP iPAQ h4150 which runs WM2003 at QVGA (240x320) resolution. About a year later, I upgraded it to the biggest and fastest available standalone PDA in the market, the behemoth HP iPAQ HX4700 ruunning WM2003SE at VGA (480x640) resolution. Soon, converged devices were widely used, especially the O2 XDA II mini PDA phone which I possess until now. Shown below are my cool devices ready to be replaced by the HTC Touch HD. | | | From left: iPAQ HX4700, O2 XDA II mini, Apple iPod 3rd Gen | | | | Above: All switched "ON". | You are right, I use two Windows Mobile devices at the same time and wasn't that much in need of a "Personal Digital Assistant" in fact. I use them for multimedia purposes most of the time. HX4700: Equiped with a big nice VGA screen, so I work mostly using this device although I do not carry it around much... quite bulky. Heavily used it as an MP3 player before I got my iPod recently. Hate the touchpad always. Customized GUI above shows "King" of Tekken 6. O2 XDA II mini: Carry this one most because it's a phone but I do not take it as a multimedia PDA, mainly because I do not want to drain its battery for important calls/sms. Screen shows Misuzu from Air TV. iPod nano 3rd Gen: Replaced the HX4700 as my MP3 player and... loved the scroll wheel. If I decide to get the HTC Touch HD, it would obviously take over my O2 XDA II mini and most probably I will not use the HX4700 also. I'll definitely sell the O2 but I am not too sure about the epic HX4700 as I was really a proud owner of it. Many of my friends were pretty much impressed by this gadget. Being an otaku and a geek I am, having possessed multiple devices with quite similar functions doesn't make me crazy, I guess? Or are you geekier than I am? Surely many of you are, so show off your high-end (or not-so-high-end) cool devices! (Not the H-stuff dear otakus) Omake Almost forgot a random 2D girl picture for non-tech-savvy otaku. | | | Above: Vocaloid Star desu! | | | Read or post comment (9 Otaku comments) | jus a loser (KL) Posted October 6th, 2008 10:13 pm (Mon) | Geeeeeee, you are going to replace your h2 huh.... well i know the reason though, damn it's a 1 good looking device there, i might as well change mine too (yup that "thousand years old witch") but i wonder what is the price? Must be a whoooooooping 2 or 3k+, well tell me the price when the device is in the market...... (damn somemore the up coming tsukasa somemore, shit..... nendoroid attacks again osoroshii, this time i WILL get the comptiq ver, its my destiny.... i WILL obey.....) | | Divine Fang (Kuala Lumpur, MY) Posted October 7th, 2008 1:52 pm (Tue) | @ jus a loser, About MYR3500 as stated above :( I'll probably get a used or refurbished unit of the HTC Touch HD since the depreciation rate of a PDA phone (or generally every phone) is always high. Hey remember that I bought my used O2 mini for MYR600 (USD171) a year ago? I was recently quoted a pathetic MYR150 (USD42) if I were to sell it! ....couldn't even buy me a 1/8 scaled PVC figurine with that. | | zenical (Singapore) Posted October 18th, 2008 1:21 pm (Sat) | I have a HTC Diamond Touch. Sadly I wish that it wasn't so laggy =/ But I hardly use my phone for any other stuff XDXD | | Divine Fang (Kuala Lumpur, MY) Posted October 19th, 2008 3:34 am (Sun) | @ zenical, Yeah, PDA phones are somehow a bit laggy when compared to "conventional" phones. If you dare, overclock it. | | Preston (KL) Posted February 8th, 2009 11:46 pm (Sun) | Maybe you can check out with SIS sales department directly to get a better price, google for their contact. Mine T3G quoted at RM1,800 to RM2,000 for a new, SIS is offering RM1,580 for a brand new, sheeziz! | | Preston (KL) Posted February 8th, 2009 11:58 pm (Sun) | But I ended up with a used T3G at a price tag of RM1,400 and 11 months warranty left from lowyat.net :p! Asus P565 with 800MHz proc is irresistible too!!!! Here's the link: http://www.asus.com/news_show.aspx?id=13428 You can youtubed as well to get a video processing comparison with other product, Asus P565 excels with flying colours :)!! Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_X7mymg61Y They are comparing P565 with O2 but the title says HTC diamond??? Time to ditch the "branding" and go for the price-performance factor :)! | | Dvine Fang (Kuala Lumpur, MY) Posted February 9th, 2009 1:08 am (Mon) | @ Preston, Thanks for your help! I don't I want a new phone right now although my O2 mini is already very problematic. Could still live with that :p Wah! The 800MHz P565 pwns the HTC Diamond! | | Preston (KL) Posted February 9th, 2009 9:45 am (Mon) | Ah! wrong website given, this is the actual: http://www.mobilewhack.com/asus-p565-and-htc-touch-diamond-go-head-to-head-asus-wins/ | | Dvine Fang (Kuala Lumpur, MY) Posted February 9th, 2009 12:46 pm (Mon) | @ Preston, Thanks.
