 | "Read more..." Feature Posted: February 7th, 2009 10:29 am (Sat) by Divine Fang Last Edited: February 7th, 2009 10:38 am (Sat) Views: 2995 [Permalink] Tag: Site | | | Quick site update. Shin-Otaku seems to have evolved into a figurine blog with many and large photos displayed in a single entry. Consequently, the time required to load the index page (HOME) is too long (not to mentioned the lack of CSS lol!) and definitely not providing the best user experience. Now that I have implemented the "Read more" feature which is very popular among CMS such as Wordpress and Blogger, you'll only be shown the full entry if you click on the "Continue reading..." link. For this entry, your reward shall be revealed if you "Continue reading..." (^_^)! Now that I do not have to hold back myself inserting large vertical image anymore, I guess I'll just have populate this seemingly vast space with one of my favourite 2D girl Sanzenin Nagi. Before that, let's start off with this cute (anonymous?) 3D girl portraying Nagi. | | | Above: Sanzenin Nagi Cosplay | These are really nice Hayate no Gotoku wallpapers for your wide screen LCD monitor, dozo! | | | Above: Hayate no Gotoku Wallpaper | | | | Above: Hayate no Gotoku Wallpaper | | | | Above: Hayate no Gotoku Wallpaper | | | | Above: Hayate no Gotoku Wallpaper | | | | Above: Hayate no Gotoku Wallpaper | | | | Above: Hayate no Gotoku Wallpaper | | | | Above: Hayate no Gotoku Wallpaper | | | | Above: Hayate no Gotoku Wallpaper | | | | Above: Hayate no Gotoku Wallpaper | | | | Above: Hayate no Gotoku Wallpaper | | | | Above: Hayate no Gotoku Wallpaper | Coding manually is fun but sometimes may feel laborious and time consuming. With many advanced features and 3rd plug-ins available today for Wordpress, I wonder if I should just switch to it or stick to the current blog platform? | | Read or post comment (10 Otaku comments) | Panther (Urban Hell) Posted February 7th, 2009 11:20 am (Sat) | The "read more" feature has always been useful, I am surprised you took so long to implement it. It helps in driving traffic to single posts while not overwhelming first-time or other main home site visitors, since they can choose what they want to read from the supposed preview from above the "read more" point. | | jusuchin85 (Penang, Malaysia) Posted February 7th, 2009 12:48 pm (Sat) | Finally you are using the "Read More" feature! really helpful for you to showcase many posts on one page to the visitors to your site; broadens the view of your blog even better than before, and of course decreases the page load! ^^; | | gordon (Singapore) Posted February 7th, 2009 11:07 pm (Sat) | it's a useful feature. makes the front page neater. maybe new readers will have a easier time moving around. but for us long time readers, or at least for me, i use google readers to read all your posts so as long as u set your feeds to full, i'm happy. ^^; btw how long are cookies here stored? i have to retype my particulars for this post. | | anechoic (KL) Posted February 8th, 2009 12:01 am (Sun) | wah, that girl look like doll.. wish more real girls pics posted..haha. :p | | Dvine Fang (Kuala Lumpur, MY) Posted February 8th, 2009 12:58 am (Sun) | @ Panther, GOMENASAI! The reason it took so long to add this feature is that I have spend a lot of time digging my very messy codes and squeeze a short keyword to break the post. The backend of this site isn't thoughtfully designed as compared to Wordpress and therefore expanding the site functionality would be a bit time consuming. @ jusuchin85, I am glad that I did it! It does seem like this is how a better blog works. @ gordon, Right! I feel that it's much neater now too ^^. Oh? I am not a fan of a fully AJAX'ed site like Google Readers because of my bad internet connection. Do not have plan to work on RSS yet, requires more tweaking :( Hmmm... this problem has been bugging me for a while (happens on my FireFox and IE too) and I couldn't seem to fix it. I did set the cookies to expire in 3 months, strange. @ anechoic, Glad that you enjoyed the very cute and moe pics! Will try to post more random girl photos in the future ^^ New Things Learned Panther says: Will not overwhelm first-timer or HOME user. jusuchin85 says: Ability to showcase many posts in one go. gordon says: Neater presentation, helps navigation. But full RSS might be a better option for veterans. anechoic says: Won't go wrong with cute girls ^^ | | Rin (Toronto) Posted February 8th, 2009 2:56 am (Sun) | Well, I use wordpress and basically take a wordpress template and doing some mods on it... It's pretty tough and takes a while to finish it... I say stick with the current plateform... | | Jus a loser (Kuala Lumpur) Posted February 8th, 2009 5:44 am (Sun) | Yo right now jus going through a few pages the book jus bought last friday, and the 三千院凪 pics feel a bit familiar.... Sounds like i seen it somewhere before...... And those wallpapers いただきますね。 | | Dvine Fang (Kuala Lumpur, MY) Posted February 8th, 2009 9:09 am (Sun) | @ Rin, Oh? I thought that Wordpress has a user-friendly GUI to customize the layout. I will explore Wordpress' codes someday. Two things I really like about Wordpress are the ability to change theme and insert 3rd party plugins easily. And I like your cool animated "FEATURED" header there! @ Jus a loser, I bet it's a nice and easy to follow book huh? Need to borrow it for CSS. You were the one who sent me the cosplay pics, airgatou! Glad that you find those wallpapers yummy ^^! | | meronpan (ca, usa) Posted February 24th, 2009 4:21 am (Tue) | woo hoo! read more! i love your blog layout (big pics ftw!) but admit it was difficult to read more than the first article if it was image heavy ^^; kore kara mo yoroshiku onegaishimasu~ | | Divine Fang (Kuala Lumpur, MY) Posted February 26th, 2009 7:13 am (Thu) | @ meronpan, I'm super slow at picking up the blogging trend hehe... Glad that you like the layout! ~yoroshiku onegaishimasu! | | | | | | |
