 | Unity May Posted: April 10th, 2009 11:45 am (Fri) by Divine Fang Last Edited: - Views: 1758 [Permalink] Tag: Figure, Unity Marriage, Unity May, Unity Mei | | | GoodSmile Company's 1/8 scaled Unity May finally unboxed! For some reason, Unity May release was delayed for about 2 months and I was actually about to cancel this order during that period, mainly because of new & upcoming Nendoroid flood. Now, I am glad that I didn't -her unique blend of purple and pink color makes her a very good addition to my existing figurine collection-. I found that Unity May is priced more expensive than Unity Yuno probably because of her larger overall size. Note: Unity May belongs to eroge Unity Marriage ~Double Bride~ (N.S.F.W). In today's photoshoot session, I adjusted my lighting a bit and tweaked my camera settings (Canon EOS 450D DSLR + EF 50mm F1.8 prime lens) to get better contrast and saturation. There isn't any post-editing in Photoshop this time around except for cropping and sharpening (without a macro lens, I just couldn't get desired sharpness (and zoom), take a look at James' excellent Unity May photoshoot). With only 50mm focal length, I have to stay close to my figure and set my F number very high (F16) to get everything focused, bad thing! Lenses generally hit maximum sharpness at F8 but at F16, photos become soft. I still need to work on the backdrop lighting and eventually move the whole setup to a big desk for notable improvements. Larger figurine like May definitely need more space in order to distance her from the light source. Love her wings! Fired flash on Unity May to get more light on her face, um... okay it's mainly for her pantsu :p Omake Unity May + Unity Yuno! And that's all for today! | | | Above: Unity May and Unity Yuno | | | Read or post comment (10 Otaku comments) | Leonia (France) Posted April 10th, 2009 3:51 pm (Fri) | Nicely shooting! Unity Mei is more cute than Unity Yuno. I prefer Mei. Great job of Good Smile Company. You make really nice picture ! Congratulation! | | Rin (Toronto) Posted April 11th, 2009 2:23 am (Sat) | Really nice!!!!!! The only thing I don't like is how the figure is attached to the base...the rest...GREAT!!!!!! | | Divine Fang (Kuala Lumpur, MY) Posted April 11th, 2009 10:41 am (Sat) | @ Leonia, Thanks! Well, I have to agree with you, indeed Unity May looks nicer than Yuno, although less moe :) For May, perhaps could have been better if she has a more aggressive facial expression. @ Rin, Oh? I thought that this is the lowest profile possible for the base attachments. Looks fine with me (^_^)! Arigatou! | | James (France) Posted April 12th, 2009 9:17 am (Sun) | I still prefer your pics than mine ^^ Thanks much for the link and consider yourself lucky with your lens , i have a crazy time taking pics because i'm using a telezoon (70 -200) so it's not the best either to take pictures of figures ... :p Why do you not take pics at 1.8 ? If i could i would ^^ (i'm limited to f4) So yes great pics and review :) | | meronpan (CA, USA) Posted April 13th, 2009 4:04 am (Mon) | gwahhh i can't wait to get a dslr but i'll have to wait 'til i can work it into my budget... beautiful figure though i never liked the weird pipe things coming out of her back... mmm colors are great, interesting pose... good stuff ^^ | | Divine Fang (Kuala Lumpur, MY) Posted April 13th, 2009 5:42 am (Mon) | @ James, I tried shooting again (after the above post) and I really couldn't get good saturation like yours :( I'll try shooting in RAW and see how things turn out. Oh? I thought you were using a macro lens? And I don't really get this one, 70mm should give you good working distance and 200mm will allow good close up photo, I suppose? Tried F1.8, no good, might just be I suck at getting nice angle. Thanks! @ meronpan It's easy, stop pre-ordering new figures and you shall save lots of $$$ really fast for your DSLR! Sore ha... sappari wakaranai! Well, GSC have never disappointed me :) | | lylibellule (Belgique) Posted April 13th, 2009 6:46 pm (Mon) | Your photos are incredible and of an impressionnate quality!!! Congratulation! Thank you for this review. Very attractive figurine. | | Divine Fang (Kuala Lumpur, MY) Posted April 14th, 2009 2:53 am (Tue) | @ lylibellude, Thanks and welcome! I'm still learning about lighting and I hope to do better in the future. Took a glance at your site moments ago and I like your stage setup there ^^! | | super rats (Philadelphia, USA) Posted April 17th, 2009 4:16 pm (Fri) | I like May's costume more than Yuno's, though I do like both costumes. The good thing about May is it's more difficult to notice the kind of ugly rubber caps over her eyes. In general though, I'd rather look at Yuno's pantsu than May's. | | Divine Fang (Kuala Lumpur, MY) Posted April 17th, 2009 11:46 pm (Fri) | @ super rats, For me it's kinda difficult to tell, but I like both too. May is new, so I might be looking at her more than Yuno for a while. But since I like very moe characters, Yuno may just get back my attention! May's eye caps are so insignificant, no problem about that. But my Yuno is having difficulties sticking her big eye caps on! Yuno's pantsu FTW! | | | | | | |
