| | | I was surprised, the local source was fast at acquiring Tekken 6! I got my copy on the 25th October, two days before the official US release date, 27th Oct (Japan version ships today) and the Online mode wasn't even up yet. The version I have includes a slip case with glossy holographic reflection, presumably only comes together in its first batch production. This post should have been up the moment I acquired the disc but was delayed because of... what else, playing Tekken 6! | | | Above: Tekken 6 Limited Edition Slip Case | Tekken 6 Wireless Sixaxis Input Delay I was shocked! Upon engaging the first match (practice mode actually) button input delay (or lag) was immediately noticed. The delay was about 3-5 frames (1 frame = 1/60th seconds as Tekken is at constant 60fps) and I had difficulties pulling out King's combo ending with Running Jaguar Bomb and getting Law to go DSS (using ~bff). Steve Fox WS 1,2 B! combo was impossible to execute. I was about to throw the blu-ray disc away and stick to arcade version. (Sorry for the Tekken jargon above.) I knew I needed help and rushed to Tekken Zaibatsu forum. The forumers were helpful although assuming many of them haven't obtain their copy of Tekken 6 before the official release date. Some suggested my LCD TV (Sony Bravia 46" X300) was the culprit because of the upscaling of Tekken 6 720p resolution to match the TV native 1080p resolution. I doubted that was true and I was right. Another forumer suggested wiring up my SixAxis controller instead of playing Tekken 6 wirelessly. So I hooked it up using PS3 supplied USB cable and *phew*... I was relieved. Every input was working flawlessly, all moves was executed the next frame after my button was pressed. The letdown now is that I have to play Tekken 6 WIRED :( It was a strange phenomenon since I have never experienced such input delay for Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection. Graphics -Arcade vs PS3 (& vs Xbox 360)- This home version of Tekken 6 is a big disappointment. Even though I have minimal exposure to the arcade version, this home version is significantly inferior to my eyes. Namco's claim of impressive 3D graphics was totally untrue. PS3 Tekken 6 graphics are rough and the polygons have weird sharp biting edges. These spiky 3D meshes definitely look awful when compared to the silky smooth arcade version. For the uninitiated, the superior arcade version was built upon PS3 hardware by Namco two years ago so that it would be easier to port it to PS3 later. But now that we see a big downgrade in graphic performance on PS3, it is questionable whether or not Namco did this purposely in order to release Tekken 6 on the less powerful Xbox 360 as well. Senario Campaign The beat'em up mode on Tekken 6 is utter crap. The camera is dumb and the target lock-on is sluggish -your character doesn't automatically face locked-on opponent the moment you Switch Target-. I have beaten Azazel & Jin and this mode didn't grow on me at all. Players are forced to play this mode repetitively to gain Fight Money and acquire new customization item quickly because other modes are not as rewarding. Though I may sounded disappointed, its main gameplay system & unique combo mechanics make up everything :) And this game should last me for at least a year! That's all for today.

| | Read or post comment (5 Otaku comments) | Shiddo (Prague, Czech Rep) Posted October 29th, 2009 1:36 pm (Thu) | Wow lucky you. Already have own copy of T6. I was watching videos of gameplay whole day today ^^ I am really temped to invest in PS3 and new TV now just cuz of it. Rly glad to hear that wiring controller helps up and there is no delay ^^ Just quick question. I noticed that players aquire HP (or maybe even other stats) thru various matches? So low rank ppl have less hp then high ranks like Tekken Lords etc? In result if low rank fights high rank he can die in few hits while his hits do not so much dmg to oponents hp bar? Or I got it wrong. I hope it's not like that... it was alrdy pain in Dissidia where it was empowered by equipment. It's more bout level and stats then skill and I had to wait my friend to get lvl 100 as well to get figths even -_- | | Jimmy (Malaysia) Posted October 29th, 2009 2:40 pm (Thu) | Nice review. YOu need arcade joystick, it will be more awesome.. btw is that your room? WAW!!! | | Divine Fang (Kuala Lumpur, MY) Posted October 30th, 2009 11:29 am (Fri) | @ Shiddo, Thanks! But wow hold it Shiddo. There's no such HP parameter in Tekken like the way it works for RPG. In Tekken, a Beginner has the same hit point like a Tekken Lord does. The ranking there only gives you a rough idea of how good the actual player is at using a certain character. Basically in Tekken 5DR, the more you win with a character in Ghost Battle, the higher you'll be ranked. I haven't studied the new mechanics of ranking up in Tekken 6 thoroughly but it should probably work the same, except everything past 1st Dan has to be obtained online. @ Jimmy, Thanks, well I wasn't actually reviewing, just logging my initial impressions about the game. I'm getting use to the bad PS3 graphical performance now. The urge of getting an arcade cabinet of Tekken 6 Bloodline Rebellion is now fading away. You read my mind, I intend to buy an arcade stick for real arcade experience. Yup, that's my room there. | | Shiddo (Prague, Czech Rep) Posted October 30th, 2009 3:04 pm (Fri) | @Divine Fang: Ah then its good ^^ Must check videos again. It was right after one of player won duel, then some bars appeared and there was like +500 something (thought HP and that scared me) Great they kept it normal as in previous installments ^^ and any1 can versus any1. | | Divine Fang (Kuala Lumpur, MY) Posted October 31st, 2009 11:24 am (Sat) | @ Shiddo, Those are probably Tekken's Fight Money for purchasing customization items. Do notice that Tekken 6 has a new Rage mode automatically triggered to increases the damage done on your opponent if your life bar runs low :) | | | | | | |
