Well, the time has come, Dollfie Dream (DD) maker Volks has made it easy for interested buyers to obtain their "Type Moon 10th Anniversary x Dollfie Dream Project" limited DDs i.e Saber Alter 2nd and Saber Fate/Extra (a.k.a Saber Nero)! They are now taking pre-orders and customers who place their order before the deadline will automatically secure the item.

For the uninitiated, limited DDs are mostly available only though Volks' (silly) lottery system, and for those who are not lucky enough to win, they would usually need to hunt on secondary market such as Yahoo Auction Japan, Mandarake, eBay e.t.c and pay a substantial marked-up price. For example, Dollfie Dream Saber Lily that retailed at 99,750 yen is now being resold at roughly 200,000 yen.
Note: There are two separate Volks divisions, Volks USA and Volks International (Japan), make sure that you are ordering from the correct division. Due to overwhelming demand, Volks has different release date for two different pre-order time frames.
Both Saber Alter 2nd and Saber Nero are indeed beautiful DDs but I had to pick only one of them. It wasn't a tough choice at all, she has to be Saber Alter 2nd to become my first DD. Saber Nero does have her charm there, I could feel that. But she came up at the wrong place at the wrong time, by standing beside and releasing simultaneously with Saber Alter 2nd, Volks has made me completely dropped her. Saber Alter 2nd face sculpt seems to represent an anime character better (which is a crucial selling point of a DD), by being more moe and loli instead of having a grown-up face sculpt like that of Saber Nero's. Saber Alter 2nd also has a timeless and elegant ojou-san dress design over the... ummm... etchi revealing dress of Saber Nero? My preference is obviously leaning towards Saber Alter 2nd but I wonder who will sell more. Based on what we could see at MFC now Saber Alter 2nd gets more order than Saber Nero, although this ought to only represent a very small fraction of buyers.
The desire of owning a DD was actually triggered by the influence of posts by Danny Choo and Wolfheinrich about 2-3 years ago. So this is not an impulsive purchase. Occasional monitoring of Volks throughout the past 2 years yielded no DD that I thought worthy of its heavy price tag, except for Saber Lily whom I almost obtained through a proxy buyer. Finally, the long wait was over after the announcement of this collaboration project. On 28th September, I received a confirmation email from Volks Japan for my order which was within the first pre-order time frame. If nothing goes wrong thereafter, I will be getting my first DD early 2012! ☆*:.｡. o(≧▽≦)o .｡.:*☆
